Founded in 1922 by brothers Theodore and Raymond, Schaap Moving proudly serves families and businesses throughout upstate New York. For over 35 years the family-owned company has been an agent for United Van Lines, allowing us to provide service across town, across the country, and even internationally.

Although the company has always offered storage services to compliment their moving business, it wasn't until 1985 that they began providing secure storage of confidential records. In 1990 Schaap invested in bar coding technology to track the location of stored records, and Schaap Records Management became one of the first in the Albany area to offer off-site document storage and retrieval of confidential documents utilizing bar coding.

The 1990s also saw the expansion of the business into distribution services and storage trailer rentals. Government agencies and private businesses have come to depend on Schaap for adding the space they need to allow them to operate efficiently, and handle the distribution accordingly. This necessitated the move to our current Albany facility, an 80,000 square-foot building in close proximity to both interstates 90 and 87.

As the volume of moves up and down the East coast increased, especially between New York and Florida, in 1995 the company purchased a moving company that was also a United Van Lines Agent in Ft. Myers, Florida. This brought the number of vehicles providing services to over 60.

Realizing that there was a demand from the general public for storage of household goods by people who wanted to pack their own belongings, in 1997 Schaap invested in HomePak. This unique service delivers a storage unit, picks it up when it's loaded, stores the unit, and delivers to the destination when the contents are needed.

The most recent addition to the Schaap Family of Companies was Certified Shredding Services. Shredding of confidential documents at the Albany facility was first offered in 2002 as identity theft became the fastest growing crime in the country. Then, in 2004, Certified Shredding Services also became mobile, allowing us to shred documents on site with a mobile shredding truck.
